Dicentra spectabilis, or bleeding heart, is a shade-loving perennial known for its arching stems adorned with pendulous, heart-shaped pink flowers with white tips. Blooming in late spring to early summer, it thrives in part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Though it tends to go dormant in midsummer, its delicate foliage pairs well with hostas and ferns to maintain visual interest. Deer-resistant and easy to grow, it is a staple in woodland gardens and shaded borders.
