Amaryllis Dutch 'Red Tiger'

Amaryllis ‘Red Tiger’ produces striking 6–8 inch blooms with vivid red petals boldly striped in white, creating a dramatic, high‑contrast look. Each 26/28 bulb sends up multiple strong stems, reaching 18–24 inches and carrying generous clusters of flowers.

As a Dutch field‑grown amaryllis, ‘Red Tiger’ is harvested later and stores well, making it ideal for spring sales and southern landscape use. It does not bloom for Christmas, but thrives outdoors in USDA Zones 9–11, where it can be treated as a perennial. In Zone 8, bulbs can be grown outdoors with winter protection or lifted before frost.

Expect blooms 8–12 weeks after planting, offering vibrant spring color for gardens, containers, and cut‑flower production.

Growing and Maintenance Tips for Amaryllis Dutch 'Red Tiger'

Planting: Outdoors, plant in spring once soil warms in Zones 9–11 (Zone 8 with protection). Indoors, pot in late winter to spring for natural late‑spring to early‑summer blooms; not suitable for Christmas forcing.
Location: Choose a bright spot with morning sun and afternoon shade; outdoors, use a warm, protected area with good air circulation.
Depth: Set bulbs so the top one‑third to one‑half remains above the soil line to prevent rot.
Soil: Use a well‑draining mix such as amended garden soil or quality potting mix; ideal pH 6.0–7.0.
Watering: Water lightly after planting; once growth begins, keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged, allowing the top inch to dry slightly.
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during active growth.
Support: Stake tall stems if needed, especially outdoors in windy areas.
Outdoor: In Zones 9–11, bulbs can stay in the ground year‑round and bloom in spring; in Zone 8, mulch heavily or lift before frost.
Post‑Bloom: Remove spent flowers but keep foliage to recharge the bulb for the next season.
Dormancy: After foliage yellows, reduce watering and store bulbs cool and dry for 8–12 weeks before replanting.
