Colocasia, commonly known as elephant ears, is distinguished by its large, heart-shaped leaves that gracefully droop downward, creating a dramatic, tropical effect. Unlike Alocasia, which has upright, arrow-shaped leaves, Colocasia’s foliage tends to point toward the ground, giving it a softer, cascading appearance.
Thriving in full sun and moist, even boggy soil, Colocasia is more tolerant of wet conditions than Alocasia, which prefers well-drained soil and indirect light. This makes Colocasia an excellent choice for water gardens, pond edges, and rain-soaked landscapes, where its bold foliage adds texture and movement.
