Ranunculus Flower Bulbs
The Aviv and Tecolote series of Ranunculus are both stunning varieties of Persian buttercups, but they have distinct characteristics that set them apart:
- Bloom Size & Petal Count: Tecolote Ranunculus generally produces larger blooms with more layers of petals, creating a fuller, more dramatic flower. Aviv Ranunculus, while still lush, tends to have slightly smaller blooms with fewer petal layers.
- Stem Length: Tecolote varieties often grow on taller stems (up to 24 inches), making them ideal for cut flower production. Aviv varieties typically have shorter stems, around 12–16 inches, which can be better suited for container gardening.
- Color Range: Tecolote Ranunculus is known for its broader color palette, including unique shades like Picotee, Café, and Merlot. Aviv Ranunculus offers vibrant, solid colors but has fewer specialty shades.
- Growth Habit & Bloom Time: Tecolote varieties tend to be more vigorous, producing larger plants with more blooms per corm. Aviv varieties are compact and may bloom slightly earlier in some conditions.
- Flower Shape: Tecolote blooms often have a more open center, resembling poppies, while Aviv blooms tend to be denser and more peony-like.
Both are excellent choices for gardens and floral arrangements, but if you’re looking for larger, more dramatic blooms, Tecolote is the way to go. If you prefer compact plants with vibrant, solid colors, Aviv might be the better fit.
