Puschkinia scilloides, commonly known as striped squill, is a petite, fall-planted bulb that brings soft blue-and-white star-shaped blooms to the garden in early to mid-spring. Native to the Caucasus and the Middle East, it features delicate racemes of flowers with a signature blue stripe down each petal, rising just 4–8 inches tall.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, Puschkinia is ideal for rock gardens, borders, and naturalized drifts beneath deciduous trees. It’s deer-resistant, drought-tolerant, and forms clumps over time, making it a low-maintenance choice for early-season color.
Its blooms attract early pollinators, and its tidy habit makes it a graceful companion to snowdrops, crocus, and scilla.
