Lycoris Flower Bulbs

Lycoris, often called spider lilies, surprise lilies, or naked ladies, are late-summer to early-fall blooming bulbs known for their sudden, leafless flower stalks that emerge seemingly overnight. Their funnel-shaped blooms, often in shades of red, pink, yellow, or white, feature gracefully curled petals and long, filament-like stamens, giving them a delicate, spidery appearance.

Native to eastern and southern Asia, Lycoris thrive in full to part sun and well-drained soil, and many species are deer- and rabbit-resistant due to their natural toxicity. They exhibit a unique growth cycle: foliage appears in spring, dies back in summer, and is followed by blooms in late summer or fall—hence the nickname “surprise lily.”

Ideal for woodland edges, perennial borders, and naturalized plantings, Lycoris add unexpected bursts of color when most other flowers are fading.
