Muscari 'White Pearl' is a pure white grape hyacinth, reaching 6 to 8 inches in height. It produces tight clusters of bell-shaped flowers, blooming in mid-to-late spring. Unlike traditional blue Muscari, 'White Pearl' offers a soft, refined look, making it a standout in mixed plantings.
Thriving in full sun to part shade, 'White Pearl' prefers well-drained soil and is deer-resistant, drought-tolerant, and mildly fragrant. It pairs beautifully with tulips, daffodils, and other spring bulbs, creating elegant contrasts in borders and containers.
Planting: Plant bulbs in fall, 3 to 4 inches deep and 2 to 3 inches apart, with the pointed end up. For a natural look, scatter and plant where they fall.
Location: Full sun to partial shade. Ideal under deciduous trees where spring light is abundant before leaf-out.
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.0). Tolerates sandy or loamy soils.
Watering: Water after planting and during active growth in spring. Once foliage yellows, reduce watering—bulbs prefer dry summer dormancy.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 4–8. Requires a cold period to bloom reliably.
Fertilization: Apply compost or a low-nitrogen fertilizer in fall or early spring. Bone meal is also beneficial at planting.
Pruning: Allow foliage to die back naturally—it nourishes the bulb for next year. Remove seed pods if you want to limit self-seeding.
Propagation: Naturalizes easily by offsets and self-seeding. Divide clumps in summer when dormant if needed.
Pest & Disease: Generally pest-free. Deer- and rodent-resistant. Good drainage prevents bulb rot.
