Lilium lancifolium 'Splendens' is a vigorous bulbous perennial featuring bright orange blooms adorned with black spots. The unscented, downward-facing flowers have gracefully recurved petals and can reach 5 inches across, creating a striking display. Blooming in late summer to early fall, mature bulbs can produce up to 20–25 blossoms per stem, making this variety exceptionally prolific. It grows 3 to 4 feet tall on slender, furry stems with narrow, lance-shaped leaves. Hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9, it thrives in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil and requires consistent moisture. This variety is highly disease-resistant and returns reliably each year, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and cut flower arrangements.

Planting: Plant bulbs in fall or early spring, 4 to 6 inches deep and 8 to 12 inches apart. Choose a permanent spot—tiger lilies naturalize well and dislike disturbance.
Location: Full sun to partial shade. They tolerate a range of light conditions but bloom best with at least 6 hours of sun.
Soil: Well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0). Amend with compost or peat moss to improve drainage and fertility.
Watering: Water regularly during active growth, especially in dry spells. Mature plants are somewhat drought-tolerant but prefer consistent moisture.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 3–9. Cold-tolerant and resilient in a wide range of climates.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring and again at bud formation. Avoid overfeeding—excess nitrogen can reduce flowering.
Pruning: Deadhead spent blooms to prevent self-seeding. Allow foliage to die back naturally. Cut stems to the ground in late fall.
Propagation: Multiply by bulbils (tiny bulbs in leaf axils), bulb division, or seed. Divide clumps every 3 to 5 years if overcrowded.
Pest & Disease: Generally low-maintenance. Watch for aphids, lily beetles, and fungal issues. Good air circulation helps prevent problems.
