Amaryllis belladonna 'Alba,' commonly known as White Naked Lady Lily, reaches 20 to 30 inches tall, with flower stalks extending up to 3 feet. It features fragrant, trumpet-shaped blooms in pure white with buttery yellow throats, rising on tall, leafless stems in late summer to early fall.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, it is drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and attracts pollinators. Its sword-like gray-green foliage remains year-round, adding texture to the garden. Ideal for borders, containers, and mixed plantings, it pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses and late-season perennials. A superb cut flower, fresh or dried, it is best planted in autumn for a striking seasonal display.
Planting Time: Best planted in late spring to early summer to establish before blooming.
Location: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with at least six hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil Conditions: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
Watering: Keep soil moist during active growth, but avoid watering during dormancy.
Temperature Needs: Requires warm summers and a cool winter period (50–55°F for at least eight weeks) to trigger flowering.
Fertilization: Apply a diluted liquid fertilizer during the growing season if needed.
Pruning: Remove dead foliage and spent flowers to maintain plant health.
Propagation: Divide bulbs every few years to encourage new growth.
Pest & Disease Resistance: Watch for spider mites and bulb rot; ensure proper drainage to prevent fungal issues.
Winter Protection: In colder climates, mulch heavily or grow in containers to bring indoors.
