I am a landscape designer and have been purchasing 1000's of spring flowering bulbs from A.D.R. Bulbs for 100's of clients in the last 20 years. The bulbs have always been of top quality and if there were any problems, they have been quick to rectify. My orders are often complicated with many varieties and different amounts and they have always filled and delivered everything on time with the best customer care and attention to detail.  The pictures in their catalog and website are beautiful. I have visited their facility in NY and was impressed with all their handling equipment and organization.  I would highly recommend A.D.R. Bulbs to anyone in the wholesale trade who wants to purchase quality bulbs and work with genuinely nice people.

Oxalis 'Triangularis'

Purple Shamrock

Oxalis triangularis, commonly known as Purple Shamrock, is a bulbous perennial prized for its deep purple, triangular leaves that fold at night and reopen in daylight. This movement, known as photonasty, adds a dynamic element to its charm.

In spring and summer, Oxalis triangularis produces delicate, trumpet-shaped flowers in white or pale pink, contrasting beautifully with its dark foliage. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers well-drained soil, making it ideal for indoor cultivation or shaded garden beds. This variety is low-maintenance and can be grown in containers or as a seasonal accent plant.

Growing and Maintenance Tips for Oxalis 'Triangularis'

Planting: Plant bulbs just below the surface in a well-draining potting mix (2 parts peat to 1 part loam works well). Use a container with drainage holes.
Spacing: Place bulbs 1 to 2 inches apart for a full look.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. A north- or east-facing window is ideal. Can tolerate some direct morning sun but avoid harsh afternoon rays.
Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid overwatering—Oxalis dislikes soggy roots. Reduce watering during dormancy (often in summer or winter).
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives at 60–75°F. Protect from drafts and temperature swings. Prefers moderate humidity but adapts well to typical indoor conditions.
Fertilization: Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth (spring and fall) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
Dormancy: If leaves yellow and die back, the plant may be entering dormancy. Stop watering, let it rest in a cool, dry spot for 4–6 weeks, then resume watering to encourage regrowth.
Propagation: Divide bulbs or offsets when repotting. Each section should have 3+ growing points for best success.
Pest & Disease: Generally pest-free. Watch for root rot if overwatered. Toxic if ingested—keep away from pets and children.
